Dave 'u dirty dog' Ewing. Mention this name anywhere within the Australasian poker scene and almost every single person will have a memorable story to relate. I met Dave when I was just starting out at Melbourne Crown Casino on the low stakes nlh games during his many forays from Adelaide. Over the years Dave has become one of my closest mates and confidants and we share many common character traits. Among these his strongest trait is his tenacity and competitive nature which bring about a never-say-die attitude to any endeavour he takes on. This has resulted in Dave being acknowledged as one of the toughest and most respected online PLO players in the game.

The first thing that comes across when you meet Dave is his aura of easy confidence and optimistic nature that tends to be infectious no matter what mood or state of mind your in. In my personal experience, there have been numerous occasions where he has been the key influencing factor in drawing out the best performance in me, whether it be him pushing me to crunch out an extra set in the gym or driving me to play my best at the tables. But beyond all this what what really makes Dave stand out among all others: his loyalty and reliability as a true friend.

Dave is one those poker players that has a rare ability to pick up new concepts and adapt his style of play to maximize value and results. He also exercises immense self discipline when it comes to sticking to his strategies when faced with adverse situations. I've always admired this self-descipline in Dave right from the very first day I met him, and I have strived to adopt these strengths in my game. Dave Ewing is one of my best mates, an inspirational person and poker player.

Hero Poker: What is the toughest thing about being player poker?

David: In my opinion there are so many important facets of a poker player, it's hard to single out one. If I had to choose I would probably say discipline. Things such as bankroll control, game selection and mental preparation are crucial to me.
